Quality and Higher Education: The standard ISO/IEC 19796-1 for learning, education and training

Abstract

In 2005, one new quality standard for learning, education and training, ISO/IEC 19796-1, was published. The objective of these standard is to orient educational organizations to develop quality systems and improve the quality of their processes, products and services. This article objective to understand the ISO/IEC based in some concepts of quality and in the tendency of quality assurance. The pattern is shown in short, showing the methodology and its advantages for educational organizations. However, the standard is a reference model, and needs to be adapted to the needs and requirements of each organization.
