Abstract

This article proposes a survey and analysis of guides, manuals, and orientations on the use of generative artificial intelligence (AI) produced by major Brazilian news outlets (IVC, 2023) and by Brazilian digital initiatives linked to the Brazilian Association of Digital Journalism (Ajor). The survey used exploratory research to identify a corpus of 11 texts: three from leading newspapers (Folha de S. Paulo, Estadão, and O Globo) and eight from exclusively digital journalistic initiatives (Comprova, Agência Lupa, Agência Pública, Aos Fatos, Núcleo Jornalismo, Farol Jornalismo, Ajor, and Reporters Without Borders). The research problem is: how do newsrooms position themselves to address the issue of AI permeability in journalistic production routines? The objective is to identify prominent themes within the data set and the discursive meanings conveyed by similarities and differences between the terminologies adopted in the evaluated texts. The methodology used is similarity analysis, supported by the Iramuteq statistical software. As a result, an incipient movement of self-regulation of AI use by journalists is observed.
