Why an event is Mega
the lack of consensus on the meaning of “events” and “sportive mega-events”

Although the number of global events, notably sporting events, grows worldwide, few authors turn to the definition of which of them can be considered mega-events. Depending on the focus of study, one category is overvalued the others (for example, the economic, tourist, media and / or urban transformation impact). The proposal, at this moment, is to consider the bibliographic production about the concepts of mega-events - both those focused on some fields and those with broader formulations - and to develop a model that allows the recognition of mega-events, in their entirety, with a special look at global sports activities.
