Report of pedagogical experience from the reading of Rupi Kaur´s poetry

Abstract

The purpose of this article is to present the report of an interdisciplinary pedagogical experience, involving the discussion about the female body from the reading of the poetry of the Indian author Rupi Kaur, with the study of poems from the book Milk and honey launched in Brazil with the title Outros jeitos de usar a boca.The experience took place during a meeting of the university extension project entitle ‘Clube de Leitura’, developed by Instituto Federal do Rio Grande do Sul, Campus Viamão, with professors, technical professionals, students scholarship and other students. We selected nine of the poems read during the meeting, discussing them from four categories of analysis, identified in the conversation circle and in the reading of the selected poems, namely: a) objectification of the woman; b) difference in the education of boys and girls; c) standardization and control of bodies; d) self-esteem and empowerment.The work reveals the importance and urgency of approaching transversal themes in education. The study reveals the importance of reading the literature written by women and urgency of discussions about the body of women in education.
