Resumen

Este artículo analiza cómo la creciente tensión entre Estados Unidos y China se refleja en la región antártica, y las implicancias que este escenario tiene para Chile y Argentina. A través de un enfoque geopolítico, se explora el papel hegemónico histórico de Estados Unidos en el Sistema del Tratado Antártico (STA), el ascenso de China como potencia científica polar y la reacción de Estados Unidos y otros países occidentales al avance de la presencia China en el Continente Blanco y sus mares adyacentes. Se concluye que la Antártida se perfila como un nuevo escenario de rivalidad sistémica global, afectando directamente la soberanía y las decisiones estratégicas de los países del Cono Sur sudamericano.

Fernando Estenssoro , Universidad de Santiago de Chile (USACH), Santiago de Chile, Chile.

Com formación en Geografia, Historia y Politologia, es Doctor en Estudios Americanos con especialización en Estudios Internacionales por la Universidad de Santiago de Chile (USACH), donde se desempeña como académico del Instituto de Estudios Avanzados (IDEA). Sus líneas de investigación se centran en la política mundial, la geografía política y los estudios internacionales. Ha sido investigador principal de vários proyectos, así como coordinador del Grupo de Trabajo CLACSO sobre Geopolítica e Integración Regional. Es autor de una vasta producción académica con más de 30 artículos en revistas indexadas y múltiples libros como autor y editor. Su trabajo ha influido en el análisis crítico del rol de América Latina frente a los desafíos geopolíticos y ambientales contemporáneos.
