Abstract

In recent years, there has been intense discussion about building the teachers’ professional identity and the components of the teaching work, as well as questions related to educators’ formation, both, initial and continued, placing teachers in the center of controversy about the current set of problems in Brazilian education. This article focuses the analysis of the challenges that teachers and the teaching work are called to face before the requirement of resignification of the contemporary school. It starts from the current crisis in the school education to discuss the relationship between cultures, multiculturalism and education in the present day society. It assumes the importance of the interculturality and introduces the implications of this perspective for the quotidian of the school and teachers’ formation. It was produced within the context of the researches of the Grupo de Estudos sobre Cotidiano, Educação e Cultura/s (GECEC), from Post-Graduation in Education of PUC-Rio, with the support of CNPq.

Vera Maria Ferrão Candau, Pontifícia Universidade Católica do Rio de Janeiro

Possui graduação em Pedagogia pela Pontifícia Universidade Católica do Rio de Janeiro e Doutorado e Pós-doutorado em Educação pela Universidad Complutense de Madrid . Realizou também estudos no nível de pós-graduação na Universidade católica de Louvain (Bélgica ) Atualmente é professora titular da Pontifícia Universidade Católica do Rio de Janeiro. Assessora experiências e projetos sócio-educativos no país e no âmbito internacional, particularmente em países latino-americanos. Tem ampla experiência de ensino desde o escola básica aos cursos de licenciatura, mestrado e doutorado. É coordenadora do grupo de Pesquisas sobre Cotidiano, Educação e Cultura(s), através do qual tem desenvolvido sistematicamente pesquisas sobre as relações entre educação e cultura(s). Suas principais áreas de atuação são: educação multi/intercultural, cotidiano escolar, didática, educação em direitos humanos e formação de educadores/as É pesquisadora 1A do CNPq.
