Being a teacher today: new confrontations between knowledges, cultures and practices

In recent years, there has been intense discussion about building the teachers’ professional identity and the components of the teaching work, as well as questions related to educators’ formation, both, initial and continued, placing teachers in the center of controversy about the current set of problems in Brazilian education. This article focuses the analysis of the challenges that teachers and the teaching work are called to face before the requirement of resignification of the contemporary school. It starts from the current crisis in the school education to discuss the relationship between cultures, multiculturalism and education in the present day society. It assumes the importance of the interculturality and introduces the implications of this perspective for the quotidian of the school and teachers’ formation. It was produced within the context of the researches of the Grupo de Estudos sobre Cotidiano, Educação e Cultura/s (GECEC), from Post-Graduation in Education of PUC-Rio, with the support of CNPq.Downloads
