Latin translations of religious Jewish textsin the 13th Century

In the 13th Century the Christian perception of contemporary Judaism changed fundamentally. The reason for that was a unique activity of translation, which stays in close relationship to the Talmud Disputation and the following Talmud condemnations. Texts translated were for example both excerpts from the Talmud, of the work of Rabbi Shlomo (Rashi) of Troyes and of the Guide of the Perplexed by Moses Maimonides. This study shows characteristics of such translations and offers examples of their corresponding historical influence.Downloads
