Abstract

Today, we witness a growing academic interest in the process by which minority images are conceived, structured and presented to the public by the mass media. After providing a historical overview of the research in this field, I examine the theoretical and methodological problems that involve the analysis of stereotypes and distortions in the media representations of marginalized or oppressed groups.

João Freire Filho, Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro

Possui título de Mestre e Doutor em Literatura Brasileira pela PUC-Rio. Foi bolsista recém-doutor do CNPq na ECO/UFRJ. Realizou pós-doutorado sênior na UFMG, com bolsa do CNPq. É professor assistente do Programa de Pós-Graduação da Escola de comunicação da Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro, do qual foi coordenador durante o biênio 2008-2010.
