Exegetical study of three pericopes of Jeremiah

This article makes a comparative study of three pericopes in the book of Jeremiah: 5,1-9; 5,20-29 and 9,1-8. These three texts share share the ending refrain and other elements too: themes, rare vocabulary, equally unusual expressions, and stylistic features with identical rhetorical functions. The study proposed here is based on exegetical analysis. After the exegesis of the refrain, each pericope individually is read syncronically; after that, the comparative study of the three texts is performed, before analyzing the literary placement of each one. The article then discusses a diachronic question, namely: whether the three texts would be parts of a single poem, which would have been dismembered, since the present composition makes clear a redaction effort to justify the divine decision to punish the people elected.
