Abstract

The aim of this study was to adapt and validate the Self-Reflection and Insight Scale (SRIS) in a sample of 690 Brazilian adults. The SRIS is an improvement of the traditional Self-Consciousness Scale (SCS) applied to self-regulation processes. The original SRIS’ factor structure was composed of two dimensions: Self-reflection and Insight. In this study, the SRIS was translated and adapted into Portuguese and, for convergent validity purposes, it was administered along with other measures of self-consciousness (Self-Absorption Scale, Reflection-Rumination Questionnaire, and Self-Consciousness Scale). The outcomes presented satisfactory reliability, and factorial structure of the scale was confirmed. Correlations between subscales indicated adequacy between the extracted model and theoretical expectations. Findings reinforce the division between public and private aspects that underlie measures related to self-consciousness. The use of the Brazilian version is suggested as a measure of self-monitoring processes.
