Abstract: The paper presents a unique article of the Brazilian romantic writer José de Alencar, published in 1851 in the newspaper Correio Mercantil. Generally speaking, Alencar’s article is a critical-biographical study of the book Aches and Flowers (1851), written by the Portuguese poet Augusto Emilio Zalaur.
