Author Biographies

Angelo Trento, Università degli Studi di Napoli L’Orientale, Naples, Italy

A retired professor of Latin American History at the Università degli Studi di Napoli L’Orientale, he is a renowned historian of Italian immigration, having conducted a pioneering inventory of the Italian press published in Brazil. He is the author of numerous works on the subject, among which stand out *Do outro lado do Atlântico: um século de imigração italiana no Brasil* (São Paulo, Nobel, 1989), *Os italianos no Brasil/Gli italiani in Brasile* (São Paulo, Prêmio, 2000), and *Imprensa italiana no Brasil, séculos XIX e XX* (São Carlos, EdUFSCar, 2013).

Adjunct Professor in the Postgraduate Program in History at the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio Grande do Sul (PPGH/PUCRS) and Lecturer in the Undergraduate History Program (subjects taught: Contemporary History; Theory and Historiography; History of Monarchical Brazil). He holds a Post-Doctorate (PNPD/CAPES program) from the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio Grande do Sul (2013-2016) and a PhD in Modern and Contemporary History from the Università degli Studi di Firenze, Italy (2011), having graduated in History from the same university. His studies focus on Italian political history (19th and 20th centuries) and socioeconomic history. He develops and supervises research on the history of Italian immigration to Brazil, with a particular focus on aspects of transnationalism; multiculturalism; skilled and business immigration; immigration and urbanization; political immigration; and ethnic press. He is the coordinator of the international project Capes/Print Migrations: Historical-Conceptual Perspectives and Analysis of Contemporary Phenomena (Brazil, Italy, Germany, Netherlands, France); collaborator in the research group TRANSFOPRESS Brazil - Study group on the press and foreign language in Brazil (CNPq) at Unesp. He is a member of the International Association AREIA (Audioarchivio delle migrazioni tra Europa e América Latina - Università di Genova - Italy) and ABHO (Brazilian Association of Oral History); researcher in the International Network of studies of Italian language, history and culture, which involves the Universities of Nantes (France), Calabria (Italy), Groeningen (Netherlands) and PUCRS (Brazil); founding member of the Associazione dei Ricercatori Italiani in Brasile (ARIB).

Luigi Biondi, Universidade Federal de São Paulo (Unifesp), São Paulo (SP), Brazil.

Associate Professor of Contemporary History at Unifesp, graduated from the Università di Roma “La Sapienza”, with a PhD in History from Unicamp and postdoctoral studies at the Università di Roma “Tor Vergata” and the Fondazione Gramsci. His main research topics focus on the history of migrations, nationalism, and the social history of labor. He is a member of the Anpuh Working Group on Worlds of Work and coordinates the study group on the Italian-language press in Brazil of the international research group Transfopress.
