In this article, the author investigates the "idea of the city" present in Curitiba during the three first decades of 20th Century. Considering that to idealize a city means to propose its ordering, it is necessary to know the social conceptions, which guide the building of the urban space, as well as to apprehend the meanings given to it. In order to do that, the article discusses the existence of a relationship between positivistic ideas expressed in a belief in progress and the transformations of urban space in Curitiba at that time.Downloads
