This ethnohistorical approach studies the pamphlet called "Newen Zeytung auss Presillg Lana", edited in form of a letter, addressed to a merchant in Antwerp and written in German language by his administrator on the Madeira island. This document reveals the result of a Portuguese commercial expedition to Brazil which reached the river Plate region in 1514. The captain of this campaign gives an account to this administrator, characterizing the land, describing the habits of the native people and the products traded, like brazilwood, fur, spices and Indian slaves.
