The present paper aims to analyze the reports of European and Latin American travelers through the city of Sao Leopoldo in southern Brazil, between the years 1834 and 1906. Following the foreigner's point of view, some aspects of the village and later the city of Sao Leopoldo can be highlighted, including what characterized it as a "German city". Other aspects contributed to the construction of this point of view. Among other things, the use of the German language (dialects) and the way immigrants organized and used the city and its surroundings, whether for work, leisure or sociability.Downloads
