A Figura do Gaúcho e a Identidade Cultural Latino-Americana

Este trabalho tem por objetivo examinar, a partir da análise de reporta-gens de jornais de Porto Alegre – Zero Hora e Correio do Povo – publicadas durante as comemorações da Semana Farroupilha de 2003, a figura do gaúcho como um dos ícones da identidade sul-rio-grandense, considerando-a uma das possíveis identidades latino-americanas. A análise considera o papel pedagógico exercido pela mídia no sentido de instituir verdades e produzir subjetividades, ensinando determinadas ma-neiras de se ser gaúcho. O referencial teórico da pesquisa está situado no campo dos Estudos Culturais, cujos conceitos-chave são justamente cultura, identidade, sistemas de significação e poder. O hibridismo cultural da identidade gaúcha, num embate com as identidades nacionais (brasileira e uruguaia), assim como o destaque dado às crian-ças, em uma perspectiva pedagógica, são discutidos em três reportagens publicadas no mês de setembro de 2003 nos jornais citados.Descritores – Identidade; cultura; gauchismo.
ABSTRACT – This study has the objective of examining, based on the analysis of articles in two newspapers in the city of Porto Alegre - Zero Hora and Correio do Povo - issued during the celebrations of the Farroupilha Week in 2003, the image of the gaúcho as one of the icons of identity in the state of Rio Grande do Sul, and con-sidering it as one of the possible Latin American identities. The analysis considers the pedagogical role exercised by the media in the sense of inculcating truths and produc-ing subjectivities, teaching certain ways of being gaúcho. The theoretical reference of the research is situated in the field of Cultural Studies, whose key concepts have been exactly culture, identity, systems of significance, and power. The cultural hybridism of the gaúcho identity, in contrast with national identities (Brazilian and Uruguayan), as well as the emphasis given to the children, with a pedagogical perspective, are discussed from three articles published during the month of September 2003 in the newspaper named above.
