Resumen

El concepto de Sistema Internacional es sobre valorizado como forma de describir el nivel sistémico de análisis de las relaciones internacionales. Esto conduce a un uso superficial del término, que a menudo lo sitúa como sinónimo de las propias relaciones internacionales o incluso de una supuesta estructura de las relaciones internacionales. Por ello, este artículo pretende discutir el concepto de Sistema Internacional, con el fin de presentar sus elementos constitutivos y las corrientes teóricas que lo utilizan. Señala la idoneidad limitada de la noción de Sistema Internacional frente a las múltiples exigencias del análisis de las relaciones internacionales; concluye que la reificación de este concepto sucumbe a una deficiencia teórica y, respectivamente, a un fracaso analítico.
