The “idea of philosophy as an original science” in the Freiburg lecture of the KNS (= Kriegsnotsemester) of 1919 (GA 56/57) by Martin Heidegger

In search of an original understanding of philosophy between 1919-1923, which incorporates the experience of life in and for itself, and without this idea of realizing our everyday experiences depending on abstract representations, Martin Heidegger will critically confront himself with the philosophical scenario of his time: the neo-Kantian philosophy (specifically Heinrich Rickert, Paul Natorp, Wilhelm Windelband and Emil Lask), phenomenology (Edmund Husserl and Max Scheler), the hermeneutics and the philosophies of life (Wilhelm Dilthey, Georg Simmel) among others. To capture this new understanding of philosophical thought, within the framework of a hermeneutic conception of phenomenology in gestation, this article will address the first five paragraphs of the KNS of 1919 (GA 56/57) in the light of both the course itself as well as on the lectures given in the first teaching at the University in Freiburg. In these paragraphs the idea of philosophy, understood as “original science of life” will have its starting point and its problematic scope in the “factual life”, interpreted as a true and authentic Faktum of thought.
