In this study, we give continuity to our exposition of the Scotism of the Chilean Franciscan master Alfonso Briceño (1587–1668), putting the emphasis on one of his five Metaphysical Appendices, which we can find in his Controversiae (Madrid, 1639–1642). In the Third Appendix, after explaining the relationship between “being” and “unity”, Briceño explicits the metaphysical concept of “distinction”, both in itself and in its differentiations. One of the most important typologies of “distinction” is the “distinction of reason”. Above all, Briceño makes efforts to clarify certain kinds of distinction of reason and to distance them all from the formal distinction, which must be understood as a kind of real distinction.Downloads
