Dialogue between Catholicism and Buddhism during the Pontificate of Pope Francis

Abstract

This article analyzes the inter-religious dialogue between Catholicism and Buddhism during Pope Francis’ pontificate, focusing on the Pope’s meetings with Buddhist leaders over the past five years. It highlights the importance of inter religious dialogue in promoting world peace, especially after the two World Wars and the Second Vatican Council. The methodology involved a documentary analysis of the Catholic Church’s publications, particularly Nostra Aetate, as well as a survey on Vatican News regarding the meetings between the Pope and Buddhist leaders. The results indicate that, despite Buddhism being marginalized in inter religious dialogue, Pope Francis’ pontificate has made some progress, with meetings reinforcing the pursuit of peace and cooperation.
