The Christian common good proposal and the business directors calling in promoting social justice

Abstract

This article aims to demonstrate the Christian proposal for the common good, according to the Kingdom of God interpretation by the Catholic Church presented in its social teaching, as well as the role and vocation of businesspeople in contributing to Creation, God’s project, and in promoting social justice. This is a bibliographic review, the source of data for which comes from the literature on the Social Doctrine of the Church, mainly on topics related to human dignity, economics and work, as well as social justice, in addition to documents of the Catholic Church that make explicit its position on the subject. Throughout the whole Bible, we see the man´s condition as the center of all Creation, having a calling to apply his effort and value it through his work. Man, therefore, has the right to find on earth what he needs, whether the means of subsistence or the instruments of progress. A society without work and without conditions for the life enters into serious deterioration, a consequence of an attitude of social sin, which rejects ethics and rejects God. The demands of the common good are, fundamentally, demands for social justice. The role of mediator in the Creation, as well as the promoter of social justice, must be exercised by businesspeople. There is an absolute importance in their actions to the complete fulfillment of the human being, as they are expected to organize the means of production in a dignified and sustainable way, in addition to efforts in develop a better and more humane life for the worker.
