Abstract

This article analyzes the Exhortation Catechesi Tradendae, published in 1979 by Pope John Paul II. It seeks to understand and point out the main characteristics and consequences that this catechetical document indicated for pastoral action, particularly for catechesis. First, elements of the ecclesial context in which the document in question emerged are presented. Next, the Exhortation itself is analyzed based on its structure and content. Next, a reflection is articulated on the influence of this document on catechesis in the Brazilian context, as well as the catechesis model that is evident from it for the Church in Brazil.
