Abstract

This article carries out a comparative analysis between the pneumatological christologies of two great theologians of the 20th century. Hans Urs von Balthasar (1905-1988), Swiss, articulated a pneumatological christology through the concepts of “mission” and “trinitarian inversion”. Jon Sobrino (1938- ), Spanish, living in El Salvador, developed a Christology of “pro following with the Spirit”, based on the reality of the poor in Central America. The contexts and starting points of their christologies are different, but there are significant results that are common to both authors. The main common result is the development of a spirituality that is incarnated, in which the faithful are impelled to follow the crucified-resurrected in their daily actions. Thus, the study of these christologies can foster an authentically evangelical spirituality, contrary to dualisms and ideologies. Among the divergences, Balthasar’s option to implement the christological principle in the Church’s mission in a very institutional way is mentioned. Sobrino, instead, focuses on the poor.
