From the gaze of Jesus to the sight of the man born blind

an exegetical analysis of John 9,1-7

Abstract

This research, which has as its title “the look of Jesus in the sight of the blind man” and as a subtitle “an exegetical analysis of John 9,1-7”, will investigate the narrative of the healing of the blind man in John 9,1-7, following the steps of the historical-critical method without, however, ceasing to apply the historical-social method in order to better elucidate the different elements present in the history of the supposed miracle. From this perspective, we will provide a brief literary introduction to the gospel according to John, having as its main object the so-called “book of signs”, where we will seek to elucidate the veracity or otherwise of the cure. Continuing our research, where we will follow some essential topics of New Testament biblical exegesis, such as translation, textual criticism, delimitation, structure, among others, thus seeking to contribute objectively to current discussions, both from the perspective of exegetical criticism and pastoral.
