This paper articulates some concepts of the theoretical framework of the so-called “Chicago School of Sociology” to the field of media consumption and reception studies. Usually taken as a school of sociological thought, Chicago theory has been recently used in communications research due to its pertinence on the study of face-to-face interactions and in mediabased interactions. Through a review of some classical works of this perspective, namely those of William I. Thomas, George Herbert Mead and Herbert Blumer, this paper points out some theoretical and methodological insights relevant to the study of contemporary communicational phenomena.Downloads
