Abstract

Recent years have been marked by a reconfiguration of the postgraduate scenario, also in the area of Communication in Rio Grande do Sul: closing and opening of programs, when not reforms of both the faculty and research areas. New trends are emerging, including a movement toward regionalization and a movement toward professionalization of postgraduate studies. The research community is focusing its efforts on meeting demands linked to indicators of “social impact”, “regional integration”, and “internationalization”. Where are we headed? This publication brings together perspectives on the subject from the current program coordinators at PUCRS, UFRGS, UFSM, and UNIPAMPA, as well as representation from the COMPÓS board and the area committee at CNPq.

Cristiano Max Pinheiro, Pontifical Catholic University of Rio Grande do Sul (PUCRS), Porto Alegre, RS, Brazil.

Professor at PUCRS, where he has coordinated the Postgraduate Program in Social Communication since 2025. Founder of the Postgraduate Program in Creative Industry at FEEVALE University, having been coordinator from 2019 to 2024. Leader of the GameRS Cluster.

Rudimar Baldissera, Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS), Porto Alegre, RS, Brazil

Professor at UFRGS, where he has coordinated the Postgraduate Program in Communication since 2023, and previously from 2017 to 2019. Former professor at FEEVALE, UCS, and UCPel. Vice-President of Abrapcorp between 2010 and 2012. CNPq Productivity Researcher.

Professor at UFRGS, where she has worked in the Postgraduate Program in Communication since 2024. From 2019 to 2024, she was the coordinator of the Postgraduate Program in Communication Sciences at UNISINOS. Vice-President of COMPÓS for the 2025-2027 term.
