Abstract

At the turn of the 2000s, Rio Grande do Sul went from being a supporting player to a national center for human resources training and knowledge production in the field of Communication. To address this expansion, which occurred with the implementation of doctoral programs, this publication brings together testimonies from Juremir Machado da Silva, Christa Berger, Maria Helena Weber, and Veneza Ronsini. It also features Antonio Fausto Neto and Pedro Gilberto Gomes, who discuss the discontinuation of the UNISINOS program after achieving top marks in the national assessment of the field — a goal now set for PUCRS, UFRGS, and UFSM.
