This study aims to examine the performance and the persona of Tarcísio Meira in film and television. Meira was the first hero of Brazilian television, whose “star text” was built upon uplifting and determined values. Later, cinema and television worked to deconstruct these values, allowing him to appear in distinct ways from the character of the leading man or romantic hero. We will analyze the formation of this persona through types of characters and modes of performance, as well as how films and soap operas deconstructed the ideal type by integrating the actor’s body into mise-en-scène procedures typical of modern cinema.
