Abstract

Taking as a scenario the Cold War scenario, the author reconstitutes the foundation of the world community of communication sciences, focusing on the institutionalization of the IAMCR, and then to highlight the Brazilian participation in this academic effort. It favors the role played by INTERCOM in such a historical process, making a critical assessment of its trends and perspectives.

Author Biography

José Marques de Melo, Methodist University of São Paulo

Graduated in Journalism from Universidade Católica de Pernambuco (1964), graduated in Legal and Social Sciences from the Federal University of Pernambuco (1965), doctor and professor in Communication Sciences - Journalism from the University of São Paulo (1973). He is currently a professor at the Methodist University of São Paulo, where he is the Director of the UNESCO Chair in Communication.
