Public interest is an argument often used by journalists and media to explain all kinds of action, including violations of conduct. In this article, we discuss the concept of public interest, and observe how it appears in thirty codes of ethics, in Africa, Asia, Europe, America and Oceania. To compose the research sample, we take into account population aspects, proportionality, legitimacy and other elements. To interpret the data, we use content analysis (Krippendorff, 1990; Bardin, 1977). Concerning the public interest, we aim to better understand journalists’ decision-making and management of the ethical conduct.Downloads
