The text produced by the professors of the Autonomous University of Barcelona is the result of the research project carried out in Catalonia, specifically in the city of Vilanova i La Geltrú and in Brazil, in the city of Corumbá, Mato Grosso do Sul. On the contributions of the media, in general, in the development of fishing communities in the two regions. The authors started from the experience and coexistence with the two groups of fishermen, considering the importance that these communities have for local development, as two areas that have their main economic resource in fishing. Allied to this fact, one factor was relevant for the research, that is, the scarcity of the product and the extinction of this economic activity.
