At its outset, this article outlines broadly the Lacanian conceptof imaginary, showing how it is formed from the mirrorstage onward and branches into attitudes of rivalry andidentification. Then, it is presented the rise of imaginary incapitalist modernity, be it in the relationship with the natureand the world of objects, or in the economic, social and politicalbonds between human beings. Finally, modern imaginary isarticulated with the attitudes of rivalry and identificationwhich rule the world of consumption.Downloads
