Before a society under transformation, drastically affected by Covid- 19 pandemic, this article is about hospitality in its cozy and helful vocation as a model to guide the beginning of a new paradigm for the human relations. The hospitality is caracterized by a social norm which is present in many cultures and traditions, especially in the bible tradition, in which it is settled as a divine commandment. In the New Testament writings, Jesus presents the gospel of the Kingdom, in a way that it resignifies the love for God and neighbor. So, frustrating a lot of expenctancies of his time, Jesus reveals a Kingdom which, at the same time becomes a guest, in disvestiture and in simplicity to be welcomed, and host, offering haven to the excluded and marginalized people. We present the parable of the good samaritan (Lk 10: 25-37) as a summary and model of God’s mercy that reclaims an attitude of compassion for his neighbor. This way, Jesus presents a compassionate hospitality, guided by the widest and most inclusive horizon of love. Then we have, from the idea of compassionate hospitality, values that are offered to reflect current times, with its crises and hopes.
