Dialects and Linguistic Variations from Northern Israelian Hebrew

The book of Judges condenses regional traditions through a rich exchange of linguistic variations that can be rescued by dialectology. This article aims to identify, catalog and analyze some of the multiple dialects in the biblical book of Judges. The advancement of research in the field of Hebrew linguistics has paved the way for the identification of dialects, localization, and dating of texts in the Hebrew Bible, such as the works of Gary A. Rendsburg, William Schniedewind, W. Randall Garr, Ran Zadok, Nadav Naaman and Tania Notarius, which form the theoretical basis of this research. The methodological procedure adopted here followed Gary Rendsburg’s research method: distribution, extrabiblical evidence, opposition, and concentration. The hypothesis of this research proposes the existence of North Israeli Hebrew dialects recorded in the texts of the biblical book of Judges, which can be identified, cataloged and analyzed following the methods of this research.
