Development and application of a new device for barorreflex stimulation [Abstract in English]
Keywords:
Valsalva, BarorreflexoAbstract
Aims: To develop and discuss possible applications of a baroreflex stimulation method, which is achieved by means of a new device that allows the correct and autonomous performance of Valsalva’s maneuver. Methods: A digital manometer was designed and developed by the Microgravity Centre/FENG-PUCRS to monitor intra-thoracic pressure during forced expiration or Valsalva maneuver. Results: The equipment (Valsalva’s Maneuver Equipment) has a pressure transducer (pressure sensor and amplifier), a digital display, a Light-Emitting Diode display and a microcontroller. Preliminary tests indicated that this new device allows the subject to effectively perform the maneuver without assistance. Conclusions: The Valsalva’s Maneuver Equipment is easy to use, light-weight, portable and of low cost. KEY WORDS: BLOOD PRESSURE MONITORS; BAROREFLEX; VALSALVA MANEUVER; EQUIPMENT AND SUPPLIES; WEIGHTLESSNESS.Downloads
