Abstract

The analysis of the material culture of educational institutions is gaining more and more importance in the historical research on education. Likewise, the creation of museums and societies interested in the preservation and study of the educational inheritance has experienced a remarkable growth in the last two decades. This text provides, first, a synthesis of the above mentioned growth. Then, the diversity of possible uses of the educational inheritance and some methodological issues arisen from the study of the above inheritance are dealt with. Finally, some remarks on the memory and the historical inheritance in the electronic culture are carried out.
