Abstract

The article discusses the circulation of affects in the dying process, articulating the literature on care work and the literature on emotions, feelings and affects in Sociology and Anthropology. It presents research data in the form of ethnographic scenes, collected during fieldwork in a palliative home care service in a public hospital in Rio de Janeiro. The relationship between affect interpretation repertoires and feeling rules is discussed, as well as their standardization in action routines through social roles and structured positions.
