BUENOS AIRES: “OTHER” MODERNITY

Abstract

This paper is a synthesis to different aspects of my research about the tension modernity-tradition in the artistic field of Buenos Aires. The central hypothesis of the investigation is focused in the construction of modernity, trying to look out of the actors, formations, institutions, types of productions, positions, debates etc. The “influence/contamination” of the European art tradition in our arts is an important aspect of this work. This article considered a particular moment to the consecration of the modernity in art in Buenos Aires the “Salón del cincuentenario de la ciudad de La Plata” (1932). Whit this text my objective is to give a punctual look around one aspect linked to our process of acceptation of the modern art in Argentina
