The aim of this essay is to provide a coherent analysis of the intellectual goals of Andrés Bello, in an attempt to comprehend lhe fragmentary nature of Latin America independence. My main objective will be to examine the role of history and literature in the fabrication of an American identity. In addition, I will atempt to unveil the hidden ideological component of Andrés Bello's project.
