The present work intenda to offer a critical-comparativc analysis between the "visions of America" of four Latin-American intellectuals, predecessors of some ideas and counter-points quite influent in the historical path and American historiography. They are: the Argentinian Domingo F. Sarmiento (1811-1888); the Cuban José Mut( (1851-1895); the Uruguayan José E. Rodó (1871-1917), the Brazilian Manoel Bonfim (1868-1932).
