The countless festivities of the colonial period in the Captaincy of Goiás constituted important moments of sociability among the existent social groups. In the commemoration of a sacred date or profane several aspects of the daily were mixed, of the culture, of the mentality, of the dominance of the Portuguese State on the Church and the colony.
