The movement of the Jesuit village of St. Barnabas game between cultures

Abstract

Analyzing the creation of Saint Barnabé, in the captainship of Rio de Janeiro, as well as the space alterations promoted in 16th and 17th centuries, the article considers that, although the Indian settlement is mostly a colonization space, the relations established between Jesuits and aborigines indicate the later as human beings, capable to negotiate and to pressure colonizers, to construct their own history.
