We intend to analyze the appropriations of the 1831 Law by public prosecutors in the Legal Suits for Freedom in Rio Grande do Sul, in the second half of nineteenth century, particularly, when defending the freedom of slaves who had lived temporarily with their masters in the countries of the Platine Region and who had returned to the Brazilian Empire.
