This article aims to discuss the hybrid performances of thought of Modesto Brocos y Gomez. The book Viaje a Marte (1930), a fictional work that carries both an Utopian and an anecdotal aspect, is used as the main source of study. We analyzed the relation of the author to the Utopian literary genre and its relationship with satire, linking this to discussions of the late 19th century and early 20th century on the whitening of the Brazilian people, also taking into account the paintings he produced on the subject.Downloads
