Abstract

The decay of the political situation in Uruguay started in 1968 and became more intense during the biennium 1972-1973. The inefficiency of the Bordaberry government in meeting economic demands prevented any opportunity for change in the short term was accompanied by the rise of the Military and the dramatic political choices made. These factors eventually resulted in the coup in Uruguay, on June 27, 1973.
