From the process-oriented approach to translation, this article aims at investigating the impact of directionality on problem-solving and decision-making processes during translation process. Eight professional translators completed a questionnaire, carried out two direct translation and two inverse translations tasks, collected with the software Translog, a Tobii T60 eye tracker and retrospective verbal protocols (ERICSSON and SIMON, 1980). Pause analysis was carried out before instances of peak performance (JAKOBSEN, 2005B) and short segments (FONSECA, 2012) in P3 macro translation units (ALVES and VALE, 2011; ALVES and GONÇALVES, 2013) regarding its duration, its nature and the type of support used. Results indicate that directionality does not have an influence in problem-solving and decision-making processes. However, directionality does seem to have an impact on pause duration and as well as on the nature and the type of support used before instances of peak performances and short segments.Downloads
