Construction of teaching identities: gathering the vocation, the objective necessities and the social processes

The present work concerns the construction of teaching identities, arguing that they result from the work regulations of teachers in each historical context. In the first part a conception of identity is presented, in which the constant provisional of the identities and indicating that they are results of disputes. Applying this idea into the teaching matter, it is affirmed that the intense reference to identities, currently, indicates that we live a moment of transformation of what is expected of the teaching work. The teaching identities are not settled accidentally, nor depend, exclusively, of the education acquired. In order to give an example for this thesis, in the second part of the text the genesis and the constitution of teaching in Argentina are presented. There, as time goes by, distinct model have been enphasized: the vocational model – clergymen and vestals; the one of public servants; the one of specialized technicians; the one of paid workers. In the conclusions the topic approached is recalled, connecting it to the title of the present paper.
