The influence of college on the student’s psichosocial development: what research tells us

Abstract

This article is focused on social and moral identity of the university student and reviews main research about the effects of higher education on psychosocial development. The main concepts and knowledge in this domain of research are introduced and the perspectives and questions evolving from psychology of development and social psychology will be strengthened.

Susana Maria de Almeida Gonçalves, Escola Superior de Educação de Coimbra

Susana Gonçalves é doutorada em Psicologia, Professora Adjunta na Escola Superior de Educação do Instituto Politécnico de Coimbra e Investigadora no Centro de investigação em Educação da Faculdade de Ciências da Universidade de Lisboa. Para além da actividade docente é e Responsável pela licenciatura da ESEC Ensino Básico: 1º Ciclo. É autora, editora e co-autora de artigos e livros na área da educação intercultural, cidadania, direitos humanos e psicologia da educação. Tem cerca de três dezenas de trabalhos publicados, alguns dos quais em publicações internacionais. Tem actividade internacional relevante, fazendo parte do Executive Comittee da rede académica CiCe: Children’s Identity & Citizenship in Europe. Coordenadora do Gabinete de Relações Internacionais da ESEC
