Abstract

The results of innumerous epidemiologic studies reveal that many of the transmissible and non-transmissible diseases are frequently related to people’s lifestyle. It is known that behaviours are related to biologic, psychological, micro and macro-social and environmental factors. One of the most promising ways to promote the adoption of healthy behaviours and the changing of conducts harmful to health and in a sustained manner is Health Education. In this article we will try to justify the need of Health Education at school, the ways to implement it and the characterization of Health Promoting Schools.

Maria Helena Camara Bastos Bolsista de Produtividade em Pesquisa do CNPq - Nível 1D possui graduação em História pela Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul (1972) , especialização em Metodologia do Ensino Superior pela Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul (1978) , mestrado em Pós-Graduação em Educação pela Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul (1984) , doutorado em Educação pela Universidade de São Paulo (1994) e pos-doutorado pela Institut National de Recherche Pedagogique (2001) . Atualmente é Professor da Pontifícia Universidade Católica do Rio Grande do Sul. Tem experiência na área de Educação , com ênfase em Fundamentos da Educação. Atuando principalmente nos seguintes temas: imprensa pedagógica, formação do professor, estado novo, História da educação, representação e escola nova.
