Since the second half of the twentieth century, visibility is gained by the western world adolescent’s growing pursuit for self-assertion as subject. Within this social process, these subjects need to handle possible dilemmas between the expectations arising from family members, teachers and peer groups, since nowadays, youth groups are presented as significant references for the adolescent to think about his/her choices and his/her place in the social world. In this paper, the intergenerational relation is problematized from the speech of teenagers (between 13 and 14 years old) from public schools in São João del-Rei, Minas Gerais. Between 2008 and 2010, when our survey was accomplished, these youngsters were entering adolescence and living the moratorium from the working world, having as main social duty the exercise of the “craft of students.” Through group dynamics and individual interviews, we discussed the intergenerational relations experienced by the subjects in family and at school.Downloads
